Sin-Eaters

For most of us, a Death is the last great journey and an inevitable end. Death is constant yet variable, not every death is the same. Some die peaceful deaths in their sleep due to odorless gases choking you while you dream. Others die long painful deaths from mutilation or disease. Still others die screaming and crying, victims of violent rage or in chunks of twisted metal that used to be a car or a plane. Those deaths create a resonance, a resonance that if powerful or momentous enough vibrates between realms and can attract the attention of something insidious and powerful. A Geist, a soul once human twisted and perverted by the energies of the underworld and given new form by ephemeral deathly resonance becoming not just a simple shade but a very symbol of death itself. These creatures of Twilight can take a quantity of Death away, like pouring water out of a vase, allowing the deathless emptiness to flood with life and deny you your final rest. They don’t do this for free. In exchange, they become bound to your soul, giving you power over death itself, in exchange for a chance to feel sunlight, taste food, and experience pleasures of the flesh. Each Geist is a unique entity all its own, with alien thoughts and desires and latch onto their hosts with all the tenacity of a jealous lover. Few in number, they are linked across the world using a Twilight Network, a hidden web of code words, sigils, and encrypted message boards, forums and web pages. They are Masters of the Underworld and Keepers of the Dead. They are the Sin-Eaters.
